When you embrace change you will begin to see it as an opportunity for growth. - Jack Canfield
You may have heard this quote before and wondered, “Why? Why embrace change?” Maybe you don’t want to learn something new. Maybe you don’t want to learn to adapt to a change that was unexpected or one you simply don’t like.
Here are some reasons to learn to embrace or adapt to change:
1. Things are going to change whether you want them to or not! Better to learn how to cope with them so you can move on with your life.
2. Consider this: the “new” way just might be better. Think about updates. You might not like that new operating system when it first comes out, but once you learn it, you might save time and energy. You might even wonder, “Why was I balking at this change; it’s great!”
3. Sometimes change is good for us – both mentally and physically. Think about a breakup in your relationship. Would you have found that new Mr. Right if things hadn’t ended with Mr. Wrong? What about an event that seriously upsets your health status quo? Nothing like a health scare to get you to focus on healthy eating, movement/exercising, or mindfulness training.
4. Sometimes changes make us change when we need to. I am a believer that God or the Universe sometimes helps us make those changes we are unable to do on our own. Maybe you won’t quit your job even though you want to, but corporate downsizing takes the choice out of your hands. In this way, God is forcing you to change.
All in all, change is often a good thing. It is much better to have an open attitude about it and be willing to change than fight the situation. You are likely fighting a losing battle when a brighter future is just around the corner.
